چکیده
Through more than 400 wells, tritium leakage of Pickering Nuclear Generating Station has been monitored seasonally since 1999. Sampling and maintenance monitoring wells being costly, it is required limiting number samples while ensuring objectives. This study aims at proposing a geostatistical approach for sample reduction meeting the So, four objectives were defined: (i) Geographical coverage. (ii) Denser sampling where variability high. (iii) Delimiting threshold 300 kBq/L, also (iv) cut-off 3000 kBq/L. These quantified using measures, served as cost functions in heuristic optimization algorithms, implemented scripting capacity Isatis.neo software. The algorithm was successful 2010Q4 (fourth season) according to first, third fourth measures. first measure selects spatially evenly distributed necessary unknown leakages. measures suggest around decisive concentration. Considering these objectives, 22 removed (totally 50 samples) deterioration characterization accuracy negligible. Temporal variogram revealed correlation over three years. So previously acquired could be used improve scarcely sampled areas. But sensitivity analysis showed that older seasons do not current season contamination characterization. conditional applied 2010 (all seasons). Previous improved last measure, deteriorated second

Groundwater Monitoring Network Optimization with Redundancy Reduction
Three optimization models are proposed to select the best subset of stations from a large groundwater monitoring network: ~1! one that maximizes spatial accuracy; ~2! one that minimizes temporal redundancy; and ~3! a model that both maximizes spatial accuracy and minimizes temporal redundancy. The proposed optimization models are solved with simulated annealing, along with an algorithm parametr...

متن کاملEstimating cancer risk in relation to tritium exposure from routine operation of a nuclear-generating station in Pickering, Ontario.
INTRODUCTION Evidence suggests that current levels of tritium emissions from CANDU reactors in Canada are not related to adverse health effects. However, these studies lack tritium-specific dose data and have small numbers of cases. The purpose of our study was to determine whether tritium emitted from a nuclear-generating station during routine operation is associated with risk of cancer in Pi...

متن کاملMonitoring Pedestrian Spatio-Temporal Behaviour
One of the major issues in the development of mobile pedestrian navigation services concerns the poor understanding of pedestrian spatiotemporal behaviour. Findings reveal that human route choice behaviour relies on a huge variety of influence factors. Therefore, common concepts like those used in car navigation systems will not conform to the requirements of pedestrians, as people on foot do n...
